Why We Don't Fake AI Citation Numbers

When we built SiteLens AI, we made a deliberate decision: we will never fabricate AI citation numbers.

The Temptation

Many tools in the AI visibility space show you a neat percentage score for how often you appear in ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. These numbers are often generated using heuristics or, worse, random simulation.

It’s tempting. A clean number like “82% brand visibility” looks impressive on a dashboard. It makes users feel good.

Why We Refuse

Because that number would be a lie. No AI provider publishes real citation‑frequency statistics. There is no API that tells you: “Your brand was mentioned 47 times this week.”

Instead, we do the only honest thing: we actually query AI models (using a reference model or real Gemini API where available) and report exactly what we see.

  • If we can’t check a platform, we say so.
  • If a model doesn’t mention your brand, we tell you.
  • If we use an estimate (because real API access is not free), we label it clearly.

Our Honesty Note

Every result in our Prompt Tracker and Brand Mention tools includes a disclosure:

“Estimated from a single reference AI model — not verified per‑platform data from the real ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini/Perplexity APIs.”

That’s not a bug; it’s a feature. It’s our promise that we never sell you a fantasy.

The Result

Yes, our numbers might be less “perfect” than a fabricated score. But they are real. And when we tell you that your brand was mentioned, you can trust that it actually happened.

We believe that honesty is the only sustainable foundation for a product that helps you make business decisions.
