How to Measure AI Visibility

AI visibility is not one universal number. It is a practical measure of whether your brand and pages appear in AI-generated answers for the questions your audience actually asks.

The simplest approach

Start with a repeatable prompt list. Run the same relevant questions in the AI search systems your audience uses, record what appears, and compare the results over time.

1. Build a prompt set

Create 10–20 questions that represent real demand. Group them by intent so you can understand where you are visible and where you are missing.

  • • Discovery: “Best website health checker for small teams”
  • • Problem solving: “How do I improve my site’s Core Web Vitals?”
  • • Educational: “What is AI citation readiness?”
  • • Comparison: GazeRank AI alternatives”
  • • Brand: “What does GazeRank AI do?”

2. Check multiple AI search experiences

Run the same prompts in the systems that matter to your audience. Results may differ because each platform has different retrieval, source-selection, and answer-generation behavior. Record the date, query, platform, cited URLs, and competitors that appear.

3. Track the right signals

Brand mention

Does the answer name your brand or product at all?

Citation presence

Does the answer link to your domain or a specific page?

Source page

Which of your URLs is selected as the supporting source?

Answer position

Are you the main recommendation, one of several options, or only mentioned in passing?

Competitor visibility

Which domains appear consistently where your site does not?

Trend over time

Are mentions and citations increasing, stable, or declining after your changes?

4. Use a baseline, not a single snapshot

A single query result is not a strategy. Record your initial baseline, make a focused set of improvements, then repeat the same checks monthly. This lets you connect visibility changes with actual work on content, technical health, and trust signals.

5. Turn missing visibility into action

If competitors are cited for a question and you are not, investigate the gap. Do you have a page that answers the question directly? Is the page crawlable? Is the answer near the top? Does the page show clear authorship, evidence, and structure?

The goal is not to manipulate one answer. The goal is to build a stronger, more useful source that deserves to be considered across a group of relevant questions.
